Napoleons Casino and Restaurant in Leeds is a medium-sized venue located just west of the city centre – about a 15 minute walk away from the heart of Leeds. It is a traditional casino which features regular special offers and short and long term promotions too.

Leeds Bradford airport is only nine miles from Napoleons and it is also easy to access by public transport. The main bus and train stations are just over a mile away and there is also a cheap Leeds Metro bus which stops near the casino. Drivers should take the inner ring road where they will find ample free parking accessible via Bingley Street. Whilst there are a plethora of hotels to choose from in Leeds, nearest to Napoleons are the Ibis, Premier Inn and Holiday Inn. The casino also has a partner hotel – The Crown Plaza – a five minute walk away. Quote ‘Napoleons’ when booking.

The gaming floor provides all the classic games including six American Roulette tables which have minimum stakes of between 25p and £1, with maximums of £25 and £50. There are four Blackjack tables which have minimum bets of £2 and £5 and maximums of £200 and £300 as well as two Three Card Poker tables and one Baccarat. Alongside this are 20 Touchbet Roulette machines and slots with jackpots of up to £10,000 and slots tournaments. However, there are no poker tournaments at the casino but there is a private game of Texas Hold’em held every Friday and Sunday from 9.00pm – ask staff for details on how to enter.

The restaurant overlooks the gaming area and, as well as regular special offers, features a new menu monthly. You can also eat in their bar which serves a Bar Menu from 5.00pm if you just want to grab a quick bite. Additionally, a selection of sandwiches are available all day as well as complimentary hot and cold drinks from the valets.

A bit dark, and a little dingy too

I played at Napoleons a couple of times in their poker tournaments, and I have to say, the first thing that struck me when I entered, was how dark it was, which made it seem almost a bit dingy.
It was easy enough to register, and the front door staffs were all polite, but all immediately it just seemed very dark and dull. In fact with the exception of the lights above the tables, it is very poorly lit indeed.
They have a table gaming area, with roulette, blackjack, touch bet gaming, and slot machines, and also a small cafe bar area too. Compared with some casinos, I found the poker area quite small, it was basically about half a dozen tables in a small area surrounded by a wooden bannister rail. However, the dealers were friendly, and so to were the ladies who brought chips around if you decided to re-buy. Being the amazing poker player that I am, I was out pretty quick, and decided to play Blackjack. The table limits were OK, I think minimum bet was either £2 or £3. However the dealers seemed very detached and slightly disinterested. I tried to strike up a conversation with two separate ones, and each of them didn't seem to want to talk.
I did OK on blackjack and decided to call it a night. If it had a bit more of an appeal about it, I would be inclined to visit again. However, at the moment it just seems very dingy and unappealing, so I doubt I'd visit here again.

Classy spot, and with the competition right there across the street, they have to be on their game

The Napoleons casino in Leeds is a bit of a twin town (also the name of the greatest movie about Welsh stoners ever made) to the Gala (now Grosvenor) Leeds, which is literally opposite on the Kirkstall Road out to the west of Leeds. Location wise, much of the same that applies to the Gala applies here, so I’ll take it as read if you’re thinking of punting in Leeds you’ll read both reviews (ie I’m too lazy to re-type it all here). These guys were here first, mind you – I bet their owner had a pretty crappy day when he realised exactly where his oppo were setting up camp. Talk about tanks on the lawn …

Inside it’s a typical Napoleons site, all dark colours and an air of class. They aim for a certain type of customer, do Napoleons, perhaps a little older and more reserved than your average G casino Saturday night two pint screamer. In fact, it wasn’t that long ago that they started allowing alcohol on the gaming floor here, the law for which changed a good 15-odd years ago, but their approach does help to lead to a more reserved type of atmosphere.

As usual they have a nice restaurant, and the slots and everything else are kept very clean and tidy.

They have had a bit of a ‘mare beyond their control – actually on reflection I’d go so far as to call it a Weston (Super-Mare). Right next door to them has opened up a large, garish payday loans office, with very prominent green signage. I reckon the last thing the owners want to see is such a spot within 50 yards – brings to mind desperation tactics from potential degens – drive up with a car, sell / pawn it for some gambling money, walk home with nothing. In practise of course they’re a good bunch at Napoleons and it’s a fine spot for a punt without worrying about getting much bother.
